How to introduce technology like a tool to your kids?

--

Over the last 5 years I observed a lot of families and children how they use technology in their everyday life.

I met along the way parents who were happy that their kids are “tech savvy” at a very early age showing proud how their 2 years old can master any device.

I met parents who banned their kids from any exposure to technology.

I met parents who were using it like an educational tool so they engage their kids in activities.

I met kids who were “addicted” to the devices and kids who were not interested at all to even see or touch any device.

I personally introduced my son at 4 years of age to technology. I would make it earlier but, it was 10 years ago and there was not so much of it.

He had a simple laptop, and used to make “research” about things that interested him, listening to stories and audiobooks, and using paint to draw.

We did this together, and from the very beginning he understand that his laptop is a very “clever tool” and had answer to all your questions and can hep you to access many wonders of the world.

You see, technology is not a lifestyle. It is a tool, A very useful one. We are in charge to understand and stay in control of how much and how we use it.

Like parents, we are responsible to show example and give guidance to our kids about how to use it, how to stay safe and how to implement it in our communication in and outside the family.

At Alpha Creative Playground this is how we use technology every day. We put an accent on teachning kids feom a very small age, cyber safety. They can learn the right path, passwords and how to access safe content, and once they get in this “habit” they will most likely respect along their life.

So, yes we recommend technology to introduce from a very young age, but always to be used like a tool. Not like a replacement. Not like bribery. Not like punishment or reward.

We need to use and make our kids understand to use it like a tool that helps and simplifies our life, keeps us connected and allows us to create and share content and make our opinion heard.

Wishing you amazing adventures!
