What just happened with the worldwide educational system?
What just happened a few weeks ago to the worldwide educational system was not surprising at all!
Let`s be honest we all knew this is coming!
Maybe not the way that happened.
The moment when kids find themselves alone, locked out from the buildings called school!
What moment is this exactly?
The moment when we can't hide anymore, we can't postpone facing the harsh reality: we are living in the shadow of a dinosaur / that is the system/ for too long.
Living in the shadow may look safe but in the long term, it kills you.
We lost so many kids by staying in the shadow.
We raised millions of functional illiterates students, while we burned-out educators and confused parents by promising them that their kids have a future proof education and they are happy and safe in the overcrowded schools!
When I say “WE” includes all of us: parents, educators, students and all managing and monitoring staff, curriculum creators, technology developers and all who ever participate in any educational process.
We talked, complained, and some made a career of becoming a speaker or expert in telling the world how bad this system is.
But not many had come up with solutions and not many applied them!
Yes, there were a few that set up alternative schools and tried another path.
So, what is that we need to do first of all when we get back to the so-called normal?
- TEACH THE WAY THEY WANT TO LEARN!
We have to stop creating content, curriculum and other educational materials or programs without asking the students how they WANT and CAN learn. Nobody that was born before 2000, thinks and sees the world like the generation born in the era of full technology.
It is not the curriculum that needs to be changed first. It is the way we teach that needs to change and adapt.
2. PARENTS DO NOT USE SCHOOLS FOR FREE BABYSITTING!
Parents MUST CHANGE their mindset. School is not a FREE Babysitting agency. /Let`s be honest, it is never free just a cheap alternative/
3. STOP RESISTING TECHNOLOGY IMPLEMENTATION!
PARENTS AND EDUCATORS: Stop resisting to implement Technology in schools! Instead of resisting and “trying” to protect them PREPARE kids from a very young age to use and not abuse technology how to log in, set up a safe password, use avatars and what to do in case of danger. Just like fire drills, we need Internet safety drills regularly.
4. EDUCATORS MUST HAVE BASIC TECHNOLOGY KNOWLEDGE!
Educators MUST learn how to use technology and MUST keep continuously develop in using and applying it.
Let`s do not waste more time speaking about the problems and let's find solutions and implement them and have the courage to fail!
